Every month has different health observances that vary across institutions. Here are a few July 2021 Health Observances along with some fun facts….
Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AMF) –
According to CDC.gov;
“Acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) is an uncommon but serious neurologic condition. It affects the nervous system, specifically the area of the spinal cord called gray matter, which causes the muscles and reflexes in the body to become weak.
Increases in AFM cases have occurred in 2014, 2016, and 2018 in the U.S.
Most AFM cases (more than 90%) have been in young children.”
National Minority Health Awareness Month –
The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) is observing National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. All month long OMH will be providing tools and resources to help combat the stigma associated with mental health in minority populations.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Anniversary –
” First enacted on July 26, 1990, the ADA prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in employment, state and local government, public accommodations, commercial facilities, transportation, and telecommunications.” ~ CMS.gov
World Hepatitis Day –
Several agencies and organizations are honoring World Hepatitis Day. World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) will be the lead the campaign. See their website for more information to how they are promoting and spreading Hepatitis Awareness.
