We are excited to announce this year’s Annual Scientific Meeting, hosted by the Old North State Medical Society (ONSMS) in collaboration with the Mountain Health Education Center (MAHEC)! Join us for two enriching days of learning, collaboration, and networking as we delve into crucial topics at the forefront of healthcare.
The Annual Scientific Meeting is a gathering that brings together healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, and advocates to explore pressing issues in healthcare. This year’s event focuses on Healthcare AI: Strengths, Weaknesses and Impact on Minority Populations and Cultural Competence.
Key Objectives
1. Participants will analyze healthcare disparities affecting our black communities and examine the causes of these disparities, including implicit bias of providers, historical trauma of African Americans, and lack of diversity within the healthcare workforce.
2. Participants will recognize and compare the history of the African American race to modern day outcomes and associate the epidemiology of Black American health
3. Participants will apply learned evidence-based strategies with African American healthcare leaders across the nation in order to continue improving the health of African Americans
4. Participants will explain how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is integrated into the healthcare field.
5. Participants will be able to identify the consequences of AI in healthcare on minority populations.

The purpose of this program is two-fold: 1) provide updates regarding major advances and findings in the treatment of disease and standards of care and 2) provide models for practice effectiveness and efficiency that ensures adherence to government regulations and positive outcomes for patients.
